The total allowable catches for 2002 have been set for Atlanto-Scandian herring. Delegations of the European Union, the Faroese, Iceland, Norway, and the Russion Federation met in London on 05 - 09 Nov 2001 to consult on the management of Norwegian Spring Spawners (Atlanto-Scandian herring). They agreed to restrict their catches to 850'000 t, with a basis TAC of 851'500 t. These figures have not been changed in comparison to 2001.
Quotas allocated to parties are:
European Community 71'260 t
Faroese 46'420 t
Iceland 132'080 t
Norway 484'500 t
Russian Federation 115'740 t
The Faroese will transfer 2'580 t to the EC, the Russian Federation shall reserve 6'800 t of its quota in order to ensure conservation of the stock.
During the annual meeting of the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission held in Londonat the same time, the parties agreed on a rollover of the total allowable catches in 2002. Based on the agreement mentioned above, NEAFC set a TAC of 76'500 t to be fished in international waters.
